  • WAAS Upgrades For Garmin 400 & 500 Series need to be returned to Garmin which will take approximately 7 to 10 working days.
  • The approximate cost for this upgrade is $1,500.00 and approximately $500.00 in labor. This is not a absolute cost and your costs could be more depending on the scope of work for your aircraft, you will be billed by the hours spent to complete the job.

  • Your aircraft will need a GPS antenna change and the potential for new coax added depending on your original installation.

  • If your original installation has external annunciators then we will need to change these as well. The cost for most annunciators is $650.00. We will also need to install additional wiring on a by-the-hour basis.

  • If your aircraft is not on Garmin's approved model list then additional costs will be incurred for paperwork. Check with your Garmin dealer for the approved model list.

  • If you own a Cirrus aircraft with an Avidyne display then your WAAS upgrade will not play with your PFD. Avidyne is currently working on a software upgrade so that your PFD will give you vertical guidance.

Problem Areas With The WAAS Upgrade For the 400/500 Series
Dual 400/500 Series Installation
It is recommended that both units should be upgraded one at a time, resulting in a loss of synchronization.
Dual Sandel Model SN3308 EHSI / Dual
With Dual 400/500 series units and dual model SN3308 EHSI’s cannot be upgraded to display vertical guidance and retain the ability to display information from either GPS on each SN3308 EHSI display.
Each SN3308 unit must be reconfigured for only one available GPS source.
Garmin GDL 49 Satellite Data Link Transceiver
The upgraded 400W/500W does not function with the GDL 49 Satellite Data Link Transceiver. The GDL 49 may be replaced with a GDL 69/69A XM weather datalink and entertainment unit
Auto Pilot
Autopilots that will be coupled to GPS vertical guidance for GPS must be specifically listed in the AML STC SA01933LA installation data.
Honeywell (Bendi/King) EFS 40/50 EFIS
For installations with these components no wiring is required; however, no current version of the EFS 40/50 can display vertical guidance.
